The captain of the Titanic was warned that there might be icebergs. President Lincoln was warned to not go out in public. Karl Wallenda was told to use a net. The builders of the Hindenburg were warned that filling it with hydrogen might blow up in their faces. Record producer Dick Rowe was warned to sign the rock group from Liverpool, but he passed on the Beatles anyway. And more recently, a fisherman in Minnesota was warned to not drive on the lake, with just five inches of ice.
The lesson? Choices have consequences. You make your choices, then your choices make you.
The Bible says it like this: “Do not be deceived. God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows” (Galatians 6:7).
Here are some more warnings, that I have given to addicts:
- Stay off the beach.
- Get off social media.
- Don’t ask for the woman’s number.
- Get on Covenant Eyes.
- Keep going to meetings.
But too often, addicts don’t heed the warnings. They make their choices. Then their choices make them.
Recovery Step: Choose to do the next right thing.
