Over 200 years ago, John Wesley’s “Holy Club” asked themselves the same 22 questions every day. I suggest you try this yourself. (I will shorten and paraphrase some of these for the sake of brevity.)
- Am I living the life of a hypocrite?
- Am I honest in all my words?
- Am I a gossip?
- Can I be trusted?
- Am I a slave to dress, friends, work, or habits?
- Am I self-justifying?
- Did the Bible live in me today?
- Do I give the Bible time to speak to me every day?
- Am I enjoying prayer?
- When did I last share my faith with an unbeliever?
- Do I pray about the money I spend?
- Do I go to bed and get up on time?
- Do I disobey God in anything?
- Do I live according to my conscience?
- Am I defeated in any part of my life?
- Am I jealous, impure, or critical?
- Do I spend my spare time wisely?
- Am I proud?
- Am I a Pharisee in comparing myself to others?
- Am I holding on to any resentments?
- Do I grumble a lot?
- Is Christ real to me?
Recovery Step: Try this list this week, as a way to “examine yourself” (2 Corinthians 13:5).
