One of my favorite singing groups was The Carpenters, whose easy listening style filled the air waves at a time when heavy rock ‘n roll was taking over the world of music.
Their signature song sat atop the charts for seven straight weeks in 1970. Karen and Richard Carpenter are still singing it in my head to this day – We’ve Only Just Begun.
“We’ve only just begun to live
White lace and promises
A kiss for luck and we’re on our way
We’ve only just begun.
Before the risin’ sun, we fly
So many roads to choose
We’ll start out walkin’ and learn to run
And yes, we’ve just begun.
Sharing horizons that are new to us
Watching the signs along the way
Talkin’ it over, just the two of us
Workin’ together day to day.
And when the evening comes, we smile
So much of life ahead
We’ll find a place where there’s room to grow
And yes, we’ve just begun.”
Recovery Step: Is your past filled with mistakes? Sure, it is. But remember, we serve a God who says, “Behold, I am doing a new thing” (Isaiah 43:19). Translation: We’ve only just begun.
