Tony Campolo had a famous sermon called “It’s Friday, but Sunday’s Coming.” His point was that while we often must endure the pain and heartache represented by Good Friday (crucifixion), better days are coming, represented by Sunday (resurrection).
We have all heard a lot of sermons about the crucifixion and the resurrection. Friday and Sunday. But I suggest that most of life is lived in between.
Most of life is lived on Saturday.
Saturday represents the space between relapse and long-term sobriety. For the spouse, it is the time between discovery and disclosure. Things have moved beyond the crisis stage, but we aren’t out of the woods yet. Friday is behind us and Sunday is coming, but it’s not here yet.
Paul offered a three-pronged strategy for living life on Saturday: “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer” (Romans 12:12).
Recovery Step: If you are living life between Friday and Sunday, do this: (a) rejoice in hope, (b) be patient in tribulation, and (c) be constant in prayer.
