I recently came upon this gem from the Book that bears my name. “When they were alone, Jesus explained all things to his disciples” (Mark 4:34).
Think on that for a second or two . . .
Okay, time’s up. Allow me to expound. The disciples had a front row seat to Jesus’ miracles, healings, and teachings. But the Christian life is about more than proximity. You can be in church, with other believers, and in the very presence of Christ – and still not get it.
Notice what Jesus did. He saved his finest work for “when they were alone.”
No Sadducees invited. Pharisees, stay out! Rabbis, this isn’t for you. Nope, the best way for Jesus’ followers to understand the depths of the life to which they were called was to be alone – with him.
An up-and-coming author by the name of Oswald Chambers said it like this: “God will continue to close us in until he gets us alone.”
Recovery Step: Gather your best books, and put them on the shelf. Get away, get quiet, get serious, and then get ready. God is about to speak.
