Over the course of our lives, on average, we spend twenty-six years sleeping and another seven years trying to sleep. We spend thirteen years at work, eight years watching TV, four years eating, three years on social media, three years on vacation, one year exercising, one year socializing, six months on our phones, three months on a toilet seat, and two weeks kissing. We also yawn 250,000 times, with most of those coming after reading columns like this.
If you sometimes feel like you have wasted too much of your time, you’re in good company.
Solomon summarized his life this way: “My life has been useless, but I have seen everything” (Ecclesiastes 7:15).
The antidote to an unfulfilled life is to start doing the things today you wish you had started yesterday. Especially with recovery.
