Bestselling author Harvey Mackay has identified seven reasons that people fail in any endeavor. These hold true for recovery.
- Lack of persistence
- Lack of conviction
- Rationalization
- Dismissal of past mistakes
- Lack of discipline
- Poor self-esteem
- Fatalistic attitude
I suggest you identify just one item from this list, which applies to your life and struggles. Correct this shortcoming, and you will see your recovery rise to an unprecedented level.
Make the following passage of Scripture you passage for this week:
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God. This is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing, and perfect will” (Romans 12:1-2).
Recovery Step: Identify one reason you have failed in your recovery, from the list above. Then get to work to fix it.
