In 1949, Looney Tunes debuted the iconic character, Wile E. Coyote. As a child, I loved to watch his antics on television every Saturday morning. His signature move was to run off a high cliff, and then, while somehow suspended in mid-air, he would continue running. But he was going nowhere.
I spend too much time running, but not going anywhere.
Sobriety is like that. We run in place before we eventually gain our traction. If we stay at it, most of us figure it out. We begin doing the things that work, that lead to successful recovery.
Paul set the pace for us all. He said, “I wanted to be sure that I was not running and had not been running my race in vain” (Galatians 2:2).
