Mary Elizabeth Anderson was born on February 19, 1866, just after the conclusion of the Civil War. There was nothing about her life to suggest that Mary would become an eventual member of the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
But Mary came up with a fresh idea. That idea was birthed on a trip on a streetcar in New York City in 1902. During a rainstorm that severely limited visibility, Mary thought to herself, “Why not a windshield wiper?”
For years, her idea was ridiculed. She was widely mocked. But as you can see on the windshield of your car today, Mary’s idea eventually caught on.
Never limit yourself. The Bible promises, “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them all” (1 Corinthians 12:4).
You may never come up with something as life-changing as a windshield wiper. But God has birthed a creative spirit in all of us. God created you for something special. Through you, he wants to make a difference.
Recovery Step: You will never be complete by looking back – at your addictions, failures, or relapses. Choose to look forward. Go on an all-out search to be the person God created you to be.
