The Wizard of Oz remains one of the most popular movies of all time. In the film, we find Dorothy skipping down the yellow brick road to see the great and powerful Oz and ask him to help her get home to Kansas. Ultimately, we discover the Wizard of Oz is a phony, when Dorothy’s dog, Toto, pulls back a curtain revealing a mere human with a loud microphone.
The movie is a parable on the human condition. Dorothy discovered that she had all she needed to get home, all along. No additional help was really needed.
I hear it all the time – men and women seeking the power to stay sober. Do you ever ask God to give you the strength to not act out? Do you ask him for the provisions to stay sober?
Stop it!
Do you remember the last promise Jesus gave on Earth? “You shall receive power after the Holy Spirit comes upon you” (Acts 1:8).
As a follower of Jesus, you have what you need – already. You have the strength to stay sober – already. You have the necessary knowledge, wisdom, and resources – already.
Recovery Step: Your problem isn’t that you don’t know what to do, but that you don’t do what you know. There is no Wizard. But there is the Holy Spirit. And that’s all you need.
