“Take life one day at a time.”
Pretty good advice, right? Well, yes – and no.
Here’s the thing. We must focus on daily goals, but also keep our eye on the prize. Mark Batterson writes, in Do It for a Day, “We overestimate what we can accomplish in a day, but we underestimate what we can do in a lifetime.”
The prophet said it like this. “The vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end. It will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will not delay” (Habakkuk 2:3).
I suggest two strategies that will serve you well:
- Daily goals
- Life goals
Recovery Step: You need both – goals for the next day, and goals for the rest of your life.
